I'm jealous

I definitely want to see Yellowstone again. I was 7 the last time, and most of Yellowstone was on fire. I believe we went in the east side and were forced to exit the west side instead of the south side. That extended our vacation a little. I still remember seeing lots of cool stuff, and I was kind of in awe of the big fire. I remember seeing a moose, and I also distinctly remember a road with lots of single car pull outs over a cliff, where my dad liked to stop quickly and scare the crap out of my mom. And we were in a 2 door Blazer… ah, memories.

I DO still play...

… in fact I recently bought myself a grand piano.

I caused a bit of drama in the house when I did it without telling the other Ryan, but he kept telling me to put it off. He was a bit pissy about it but got over it quickly.

Whether you still play the piano or have an appreciation for music, I am SO proud of Ryan for having the will to get himself to lessons as a kid!

I never bothered to even inflate my tires

When I was a kid, I used to ride my bike to piano lessons through the ice and snow with two completely flat tires. The rims ended up destroyed after a while, but the bike was exacly 1 billion years old and I found I got better traction on the ice and snow with flat tires.

God-for-f’ing-bid my mother or step-father would drive me 3 miles once a week for a 1/2 hour lesson.

who knew?

I certainly don’t own a patch kit. Brian killed a tube because he was trying to get our pump off the tire and ripped the stem off. We took my bike to the shop also because as long as I’ve owned it, I’ve had trouble shifting. The guy at the shop said “Do you own any chain grease?” and we were both like “Huh?” We’re such idiots. All it needed was a little lube – good to go.

At least we’re just recreational bikers. Although now that I think about it, it would suck to be 6 mi. from the car or from home and blow a tire.

I hadn’t even owned a bike since I was 15 (as soon as I could drive, I’ve been driving). I did buy a used bike from someone on the side of the road last year, but I KNOW it needs a major tune-up and I have yet to take it somewhere to have it looked at.

I’m SOOOOO green in every other way! I need to get on the bike…..

I didn't carry around a patch kit until a couple of years ago

I didn’t carry around a patch kit until a couple of years ago because I was incredibly lucky and because I …(I am such a girl)….didn’t know how to patch a flat.

Now, I decided I needed one, and bought one, with the CO2 cartridge, when I got one on the bike path and had to walk about 1 mile to a gas station for a fill.

I had to use it one day when I was easily 10 miles from home, in the middle of freaking nowhere, along the bike path. I seriously was freaking out as I pulled everything apart and put it back together again. IT took me 45 minutes, which is like 40 minutes too long.

Now, I’m better, and I usually just carry a spare tube around, with my C02 inflater thingy and a little tool to help remove a tire, but it’s still a long and tedious process to deal with it.

Ok... that makes sense

I guess I just need to toughen up and get out every 10-14 days as you say. Our neighborhood here is pretty nice and flat, so I might be able to do that. Warm weather isn’t going to be here for long, though.

When we lived in Cleveland I wouldn’t ride around our neighborhood for fear of traffic and personal safety. We’d have to drive 30 minutes to a nice flat path. Here I have fewer fears.

I get that too.

I don’t have any men vs. women data, but it does happen to me too. I usually don’t bike during the colder months, and every spring after my first few rides I get what feels a bit like bruising on my “seat bones.”

It almost feels like I develop calluses there, because usually by about the third ride or so it doesn’t bother me. As long as I ride at least once every 10-14 days, I don’t have problems until the next spring.

A few years ago I even bought a new seat that had a gel insert — but I still experienced that same ache in the spring.

Bah!

So I’m the only one whose butt hurts? Every time I bike my “seat bones” (sit bones?) hurt like hell. I know from experience during summers when I could not yet drive that this goes away with regular riding. Now that I can drive, I’m no longer a regular rider. It’s sad, I know. If you see me sort of shifting around uncomfortably when I’m riding, that’s why. Maybe I need a cushy seat cover…

Maybe these short rides are the way to build up that tolerance. I think when we would go 12 miles on the towpath in OH is when I’d hurt the worst, just from balancing all my weight on those bones for a couple of hours straight. Today it felt like we might have been on our bikes for 40 minutes total.

B doesn’t seem to know what I’m talking about when I complain about this particular pain. Is it worse for women?

but either day works for us.

I have a lot of cool recipes that I’d like to try though!

Like Watermelon-Feta salad maybe? Maybe a taco salad? I think some sort of salad.

There will be 4 of us, but baby e will have her own food, of course.

We’ll bring… something. I’ll check out the farmers market tomorrow and see what looks good.

If it’s on Sunday I’ll have to leave at 5:45 or so. I’m going to a friend’s going away party at Pedro’s west. That might be a good thing, since Ruppert isn’t going, he’d have something to do.

Monday is totally open.

2 coming, at least for a while
we’ll bring…. spinach dip in a bread bowl

I WANT TOMATOES!!!

I have yet to live in a house long enough to get the things I want inside done and convince Ryan to plant a vegetable garden.

Now we live in Whitetail Deer central in Leesburg and I’m afraid any succulent juicy vegetables I grow will be consumed by the local fauna.

I love tomatoes. All red, and fresh and fragrant and juicy. When you bite into them like an apple, the juice squirts up your nose and into the eye of the person sitting across from you.

I want some.

That’s too bad. I always thought those little jalepeno plants looked cute. I’ve never tried to grow one. I believe my parents were successful with bell peppers. I think they like SAND, and my parents have clay in their yard, although they’ve brought in a lot of stuff to try to remedy that.
