Brian wants to add rule #8: no names from nature – River, Sky, Cliff, Feather, Pheonix, Autumn, Summer, Clay, Forrest, Rain…

I’d like to add rule #9: no months – naming them after the month they were born is like cheating, and naming them after a month they weren’t born in seems weird.

I’d also like to add rule #10: no weird apostrophes, dashes, or prefixes, sorry LeBron, D’Angelo, D’Anton, Ti-Shawn…

I wonder if the deviant children will be the ones with normal names because every other child is named Nevaeh, Mykael, Krysti, Jebediah, Lisah and the like…

More Name Stupidness

I hope you guys have girls and not boys. At least a girl named one of the million variations of “Katelynn” is acceptable, if slightly annoying. Although naming your kid Madyson or Madisyn or Maedysyne (drunk scrabble anyone?) is just, I think, the hallmark of a complete moron who should have checked their reproductive organs with their brains. And unless you’re a Sara(h), adding an H at the end of a name ending in “A” is also retarded. I’m looking at you, Dakotahs of the world. What’s next? Amandah? Alexandriah? Victoriah? Lisa?

Trading Ys, Is and Es, not to mentions Cs and Ks with girls ensures that the father, 18 years hence, during his midlife crisis visit to the local strip club, he’ll find his sweet little Cyndi, Krystal, Brandi, Candi, Tyffani gyrating her scented-oiled up butt in his face.

As for boys, if you want to ensure your kid is either an emo/wiccan/stoner/geek – go on, misspell his name. A boy going through school named Mykael will dye his hair black and tattoo the latest band to be afflicted with “The whole world is a pit of despair, so shut up and dance” music. Mykael will also bleed for fun and practice stretching his earlobes to wear half-dollar sized earrings. He’ll openly despise his stupid, slutty, popular, vacuous sister Krysti, but will have dark, unnatural fantasies about her friends Bryttnie, Lyndsie, and Amandah.

One final argh! at the world of dumb-ass parents.
Nevaeh?
Seriously, really? Heaven is passe’, but spelling it backwards is awesome!!1111!!!!
Why not Anavrin, or Lleh (it’s welsh!), or Sedah, or perhaps Yrotagrup or Draagsa.

Ok… all of that made me laugh. I had honestly never thought about the problems you had coming up with a name.

Brian wants to do #2 someday. I hope he’s joking.

Aragorn… ahahahaha

Of course we all know Brian’s mom has already named our (far) future child Sibelius. It just makes me think of the little boy I saw at the doctor’s office named Wolfgang. Wolfgang? Here Wolfie!

We had his name picked out well in advance of his birth. We had very specific criteria:
1)No medieval professions/stupid soap-opera names ala Hunter, Cooper, Fletcher, Chase, Mason, etc
2)No stupid names with intentional misspelling just to be different.
3)Nothing that sounded silly or stupid with our last name. I like the name Daniel, but I did not want to spend the rest of my life singing “Oh Danny Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling…” Jonathan is also a good name, but it is taken and even though children in 5-10 years won’t know who or what the Waltons were, Good Night John Boy is just too easy.
4)Preferably nothing in the top 50 of current names for boys.
5)No fantasy names. (this is my son, Gimli Gloin Bloy, or perhaps Aragorn or Anakin Bloy.) YIKES.
6)Some biblical names are cool (obviously), but others will probably ensure that your child will be some sort of deviant — Jebediah, Obidiah, Ezekial, Ebenezer, Moses, Lot…
7)No place names – No Madison, Jericho, Paris, Troy, Montana, Dakota, etc…

Mythbusters rocks!

If you want to do it in true Mythbuster’s style though, you first do it the normal way, and then you have to do it in the extreme way. You know, send a crash test dummy into the sky on a Mentos/Diet Coke Rocket or something.

P.S. OMG Adam is going to be 4 already??

The origins of Adam..

I thought she named him Adam because it was one of the only names they both liked that didn’t sound silly with the last name.

Danny, for instance has a rather silly permutation.

Am I invited? I’ll come just to watch you all get soaked in Diet Coke.

Mythbusters is one of the few shows that captures Brian’s full attention. I don’t know what it is, but it almost annoys me. I think it might be the announcer. I think the way they jump around to do different myths also annoys me. Here we are talking about something interesting, now it’s time to go blow something up! Woo! I couldn’t care less about explosions.

I have wondered if you named Adam after the guy on Mythbusters :) I guess the two happened sort of at the same time.

Growing up with Mythbusters

A little over 4 years ago I was lying in a hospital bed, drugged to the eyeballs and enjoying fledgling motherhood. I watched hours of the Newborn Channel on the hospital cable and reveled in all the baby stuff.
After a day or so I was sick to death of the Newborn Channel and went channel surfing looking for something interesting to watch. Thats when I found a brand new show with a couple crazy guys, one named Adam no less, who tried out crazy myths. The first one I ever saw was the jet-propelled car in the desert myth.
“This is so cool! Mike will love this show and if it lasts, Adam will love it too.” I said to myself.
We immediately started to TiVO this show because it really is awesome.
